Well, This is Embarrassing

It has been far too long since I've updated this blog, but I've been so so crazy busy and so much has happened that I think I have a pretty good excuse (still, I kinda feel like I left the back door open and the stove on). Sooo, where to start. Oh yea, I'm having my very first solo show next month at The Smitten Kitten in Minneapolis, MN. I went back and forth about having a solo show at first because I couldn't think of a place I felt comfortable hosting it, and then I remembered that The Smitten Kitten has always been kind and supportive of my career and artwork and I couldn't imagine a better place to have it.

There will be an artist talk and probably food and wine. I have 18 pieces prepare plus and extra in progress piece that can only be seen first during the artist talk. It's gonna be one amazing night and it would suck if you weren't there to experiences it. If you want to check out the event page then go HERE.

The next bit of great news is that I'm officially on staff at Paper Darts Magazine, I am one of their new Contributing Arts Editors and the position has been a dream. I've done some freelance interviews for them in the past and they liked them so much that they want me to be a permanent fixture. Now, I get to talk about art everyday and I just spent the evening at a potluck at the Paper Darts Pop Up at SooLocal and it was wonderful getting to meet the rest of the staff face to face. Paper Darts is run by extremely hard working, detail oriented people who put forth their own money to make Paper Dart look, read and feel fantastic. Unlike the last magazine I worked on Paper Darts has a record of excellence; it truly is a labor of love and I'm honored that they want me to be apart of their family. I've also been doing some freelance writing for The Smitten Kitten Blog, The Tangential, and MPLSzine as well as working on my Daily Planet column. It's been a great year for me and the written word.

As for this month I'm going to be in the Luck of the Draw show on June 22nd at The Abstracted Gallery. Because of all the writing and the preparations for the solo show I haven't had the time to show anywhere else (this was a purposeful decision on my part). But taking on one show is alright and since The Abstracted is a new gallery and I've never shown there before it's a great way to gain some new exposure.

I think that's it so far for the big developments in my life. I can't believe I went so long without posting, but better late than never. I'm thinking about redesigning the banner for this blog; it won't be anything fancy (it never is), but it will hopefully be better than what is there.

Sorry this took so long, I'll try to be better about it in the future.

More stuff about life... And art too

I have finally eased into this new style of been working it. I've found my bearings and am working in a way that I', at least more comfortable in. I haven't mastered anything, but I'm truly enjoying the end product. I also have an Instagram and it's been extremely helpful in promoting my work. And I'll be posting more of my posts from the Twin Cities Daily Planet around here since I know have a column with them called The Art House.

I've got a show coming up on the 1st of February called MNworks at the Bedlam Community Design Center and another one for Black History Month at The Smitten Kitten on the 5th. I don't do a lot of showing in the winter, but this year has been very plentiful. Normally, I have nothing going on in March and I was thinking of taking that month off every year since I never have any projects. But I was also thinking that if something does come up why not take it; it would be kind of a stepping stone to have a show in March since I never have before.

I'm trying to do more fun stuff this winter. Winter generally sucks and I spend most of my time inside making work and not leaving the house. So I'm trying to have more experience and hang out with more people in my life system. I've got an awesome life system of people and I have no excuses for not spending more time with them and buying them nice things. Except that it's cold outside.

So much more stuff

There's stuff happening and if I hadn't been so busy and so sick I would've told you about it much sooner. I hope everyone had a fantastic New Years; mine wasn't great, but that's okay. I learned a lot in 2012 and was surrounded by loving and supportive people. In that regard everything was a success.

The Smitten Kitten show was awesome. So many people showed up and I sold plenty of work (and I got to see dildos shaped like ice cream). It was better than I imagined it would be and I can't wait to show with them again.

Since then I've been preparing for 'A Crude Menagerie' a showcase of the work of tattoo artists and friends with a circus freakshow theme. It will will be opening tomorrow at AZ Gallery in Lowertown St. Paul. I've never shown there before and I'm always excited to show in a new place. I think the shows gonna be really great.

Art wise I'm slowly working on a new series of paintings. I'm still getting the hang of my new artistic evolution, but no longer is it uncomfortable or haphazardly.

Okay, so I'll try to post more for the new year and aspire not to be so neglectful of this blog. Also, I'm writing this from my iPhone so let's see how that turns out. Ha!

So much Stuff

Sooo, it's well known that I haven't been the best at updating this thing, but that's just how it goes. My life has been extremely busy lately as I've stopped writing for BGF entirely and started writing for the Twin Cities Daily Planet. Journalism is flexing a different muscle in me writing wise and I'm liking the results so far. I also have a sexy new show coming up on the 6th of December at the Smitten Kitten.Lots of saucy artwork at an even saucier place. I didn't get to go last year cause I was sick, but wild horses couldn't keep me away this time. If you're in the Minneapolis area you should come check it out; it's gonna be a hell of a night.

Also, I've started painting more (cause I guess I forgot how to do it since college so I had to reteach myself. Which was weird). Since my style and subject matter have done a complete 180 it feels nice to make art in a different way (especially since selling it is next to impossible right now). So, I guess that means my old style is just gone now and is being replaced by something different but not all together foreign.

Things have been good, Thanksgiving was nice (my family managed not to kill each other which was cool). I've been spending a lot of time being more social and less of a hermit, and hopefully next year is busy and filled with new opportunities. I've been painting lotus blossoms in varying forms for the past two nights; so I'm gonna go back to doing that. I'll leave you with a picture of an old Munny I made standing next to its new friend (that I also made in case you were wondering).

Later Days :)

So, I FINALLY got my etsy site up after so much posturing and procrastinating. It took a while to get everything situated, but now that it's all taken care of I can begin posting and promoting it and hopefully selling more work. There are illustrations, painting, and of course Munnys, and there will be more to come

For now you can go to this link to check it out. I'll make a link button for it soon.
