It has been far too long since I've updated this blog, but I've been so so crazy busy and so much has happened that I think I have a pretty good excuse (still, I kinda feel like I left the back door open and the stove on). Sooo, where to start. Oh yea, I'm having my very first solo show next month at The Smitten Kitten in Minneapolis, MN. I went back and forth about having a solo show at first because I couldn't think of a place I felt comfortable hosting it, and then I remembered that The Smitten Kitten has always been kind and supportive of my career and artwork and I couldn't imagine a better place to have it.There will be an artist talk and probably food and wine. I have 18 pieces prepare plus and extra in progress piece that can only be seen first during the artist talk. It's gonna be one amazing night and it would suck if you weren't there to experiences it. If you want to check out the event page then go HERE.
The next bit of great news is that I'm officially on staff at Paper Darts Magazine, I am one of their new Contributing Arts Editors and the position has been a dream. I've done some freelance interviews for them in the past and they liked them so much that they want me to be a permanent fixture. Now, I get to talk about art everyday and I just spent the evening at a potluck at the Paper Darts Pop Up at SooLocal and it was wonderful getting to meet the rest of the staff face to face. Paper Darts is run by extremely hard working, detail oriented people who put forth their own money to make Paper Dart look, read and feel fantastic. Unlike the last magazine I worked on Paper Darts has a record of excellence; it truly is a labor of love and I'm honored that they want me to be apart of their family. I've also been doing some freelance writing for The Smitten Kitten Blog, The Tangential, and MPLSzine as well as working on my Daily Planet column. It's been a great year for me and the written word.As for this month I'm going to be in the Luck of the Draw show on June 22nd at The Abstracted Gallery. Because of all the writing and the preparations for the solo show I haven't had the time to show anywhere else (this was a purposeful decision on my part). But taking on one show is alright and since The Abstracted is a new gallery and I've never shown there before it's a great way to gain some new exposure.
I think that's it so far for the big developments in my life. I can't believe I went so long without posting, but better late than never. I'm thinking about redesigning the banner for this blog; it won't be anything fancy (it never is), but it will hopefully be better than what is there.
Sorry this took so long, I'll try to be better about it in the future.
